Bulbs-Crocus sativus L.

CROCUS SATIVUS L. QUALITY CERTIFIED BULBS TUBERS (Saffron)

Bulb tubers (often incorrectly called "bulbs") are rooted from the soil and harvested every year at the end of June / early July. Once cooked, they are carefully washed and dried and undergo a special heat treatment. Then they are calibrated (sorted) by size and ready for sale.

These are autumn varieties that will bloom in autumn. It is necessary to plant them a bit earlier than other bulbs. Ideal planting time is from August to September. Saffron is a permanent crop. The buds grow every year in the country, so it is possible to harvest their own saffron for 4 to 5 consecutive years, when harvesting increases each year. After this period, it is necessary to dig up the bulb tubers and re-plant them on another site. With this cultivation method, it is enough to buy onion bulbs only once in order to obtain saffron for many years.

The planting site is recommended to be sunny. Saffron can be planted directly into the lawn. Before the planting is done, the soil must be treated. Sprinkle well at the height of the spade and fertilize the compost. The ideal depth of planting is 10 - 15 cm with 5-10 cm spacing between the bulb tubers on the line.

The amount of bulk tubers that can be cut per m2 depends on their size. For 7/8 onion bulbs, about 60 to 70 bulbs per m2, 8/9 tubers, 50 to 60 pieces per square meter, and 9/10 tubers can be planted, 40 to 50 pieces per m2.

The size of the tuber is given in centimeters of the circumference of the tuber. For example, 9/10 stubs have a circle between 9 and 10 centimeters. The diameter of bulb tubers can be easily calculated by dividing the Pi-circumference circumference (Pi ≈ 3, 14). Tubers of size 9/10 have a diameter of 9 / 3.14 ≈ 2.86 and 10 / 3.14 ≈ 3.18 centimeters.

We recommend regular fertilizing with bulk fertilizer on bulbs. After flowering, it is possible to keep onion bulbs on the site for the next season. If we take them out and keep them in a cool and dark place, we will prevent possible diseases that can potentially attack the tubers. We take the tubers after the leaf is dead, clean, dry and store.
